The annual fee charged by a mutual fund or ETF as a percentage of assets under management (AUM). It covers management, operational, and distribution costs.

Example

A fund with 1% expense ratio on ₹1 lakh investment charges ₹1,000/year. Index funds typically charge 0.1–0.2%.
